How do educators create vibrant learning environments, ones in which student ideas are shared and explored and where children feel empowered to raise questions and debate each other’s thinking? In this 90-minute session, we will explore specific pedagogical techniques that teachers can use to foster a collaborative community in which student talk is central to learning.

PARTICIPANTS WILL EXPLORE:
- a variety of research-based pedagogical moves to develop student discourse.
- video of classroom talk. Here, transcripts of video will be used to highlight and name specific moves teachers are using and how these impact student talk and learning.
PARTICIPANTS WILL LEAVE WITH:
- Specific talk moves they can use in their own teaching.
- Reference materials for future reading on the topic of how to create rich classroom discussions.
