Routines & Mini-Lessons to Develop Computational Fluency with Decimals

What is computational fluency and how does it develop? In this one-day PD, we will explore specific routines & guided mini-lessons educators can use to support the kind of high-level reasoning with decimals that will ensure computational fluency. We will examine how whole-number fluency strategies can be used to support reasoning with decimals. We will also explore how mathematical models can be used to support a deep understanding of decimals that is essential for computational fluency.

EDUCATORS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXAMINE:

  • specific mental-math mini-lessons and routines.
  • key pedagogical tools (e.g., use of questions and mathematical models) that support the development of students’ computational fluency.
  • video and transcripts of students’ strategies to think about what they know and how their thinking might be developed or deepened.
  • Date: February 26, 2025
  • Time: 8:30 – 3:00 PM EST
  • Audience: All educators, Grade 3-6
  • Location: TBA
  • Price: $450 (Shop DoE) or $500 per person
