What is computational fluency and how do we support children to develop it?
Do you want your students to become more accurate, flexible, and efficient thinkers in addition and subtraction? Do you wonder what kinds of lessons develop computational fluency? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then this three-part series is for you!
Session 1: March 20, 2024
Session 2: April 3, 2024
Session 3: April 17, 2024
If you’re curious to discover new tools like the NEW Virtual Bead String Model to develop your students’ mathematical understanding, please join our community!
CTLE: 18 credits for all 3 days
AUDIENCE:
Grades K-2 Educators (new teachers, special education teachers, coaches/ teachers new to the grade level/ band)
PARTICIPANTS WILL EXPLORE:
- classroom routines and structures that develop the building blocks (aka basic facts) essential for computational fluency.
- how to create and facilitate 10-15 minute guided mini-lessons to develop computational fluency in early number, addition, and subtraction.
- how to uncover student thinking and model the big ideas using the NEW Virtual Bead String. This session will provide opportunities to work with small groups of children to work with the model in real time.
PARTICIPANTS WILL LEAVE WITH:
PARTICIPANTS WILL LEAVE WITH:
- a deeper understanding of how to develop students’ fluency using games, routines, and the NEW Virtual Bead String App.
- access to NEW Virtual Bead String Lesson Sketches
