Series #1:
Using Ten-Minute Routines to Develop Student Mindfulness

What is mindfulness and why is it important for our students? One definition of mindfulness is that it’s “the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.”

Series #1:

Using Ten-Minute Routines to Develop Student Mindfulness

In our experiences as coaches, we have come to the realization that one of the biggest impediments to student learning can be traced to their ability to stay present—whether in the lesson or in small-group interactions. When students are unable to control their thoughts and emotions, when they are easily distracted, learning becomes a very fragmented experience. Often, that fragmentation leads to students losing the thread of their own learning, which creates frustration and a sense of failure.

In this webinar series, we will explore a series of routines called The Joyful Learner. These five-seven minutes routines are not content specific. They have been specifically designed to develop students’ capacity to stay present, to be aware of their emotions, to know when and how they are being distracted and to find ways to re-engage in learning.

We are looking forward to working with you!
