Grades 3-5: Using Mathematical Models to Develop Reasoning & Talk

In this Grades 3-5 Think Tank, educators will explore how mathematical models can be used to develop deep mathematical reasoning. A new type of model, the Thinking Frame, will also be highlighted as a tool that can support fluency in multiplication and division. Participants will receive access to the Thinking Frame APP as well as lesson write-ups they can use in their own classrooms.

PARTICIPANTS WILL EXPLORE HOW TO:

  • use a variety of mathematical models to develop computational fluency.
  • use a series of lessons to develop and support students’ multiplicative reasoning.
  • use key pedagogical moves to improve math learning, communication, and social interactions in their classrooms.

  • access to the new Thinking Frame APP.
  • lesson write-ups for developing big ideas and strategies in multiplication and division.
