Grades 3-5: Tools for Assessing Students’ Multiplicative Reasoning

In this Grades 3-5 Think Tank, educators will explore specific assessment tools to analyze students’ mathematical development in multiplication and division. These include paper-and-pencil assessments as well as one-on-one interviews teachers can use with their students.

PARTICIPANTS WILL EXPLORE HOW TO:

  • use a variety of assessment tools to gather data on students’ mathematical understanding of multiplication and division.
  • use a learning trajectory for mathematical development to help assess their students.
  • use key conferring tools to jump-start one-on-one conversations with students.

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEAVE WITH:

  • written assessments they can use in their own classrooms.
  • a learning trajectory they can use as a tool to assess students’ mathematical thinking.
