Think Tank #2: Developing Multiplicative Reasoning

In Think Tank #2, we will explore the development of multiplicative reasoning in grades 2-4. Each session will focus on:

  1. Assessing students (gathering data about their mathematical reasoning in a specific content area).
  2. Pooling of data to design small-group lessons to support children’s specific learning needs.
  3. Enacting the planned lessons.
  4. Reflecting on the teaching.
  5. Designing future lessons to support children’s on-going learning.

  • Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Audience: Coaches & Teachers, Grades 2-4

PARTICIPANTS WILL EXPLORE HOW TO:

  • assess students to understand their multiplicative reasoning.
  • design lessons that best address the gaps in students’ thinking.
  • use key pedagogical moves to improve math learning, communication, and social interactions in their classrooms.

  • a learning trajectory of big ideas and strategies necessary for multiplicative reasoning.
  • lessons, routines, and games they can use in their own work with teachers at their schools.
  • a set of assessments that can help teachers work strategically with students and design lessons that meet their developmental needs.
